12.26.2009- Today was my lucky day.  I
wobbled out in front of a truck and the
driver stopped and picked me up.  She
took me to her house and warmed me up
and then fed me.  I wasn't feeling very
good, so this isn't such a great picture
of me.  What I didn't know was that
there were angels already working to
nurse me back to health.

12.27-12.29.2009- I've been taking it easy at my new house.  There is another dog here, 3
kitties and a bird.  I feel right at home here.  I've been saving my energy for meal times.  I
haven't gorged myself, I eat slowly, walk away, then come back for a little more after I've
laid down.  And I love the fresh water.
12.30.2009- Today was a big day!  I had my first vet appointment.  I had a little bit of a fever
and a terrible sinus infection.  The doctor said I'm between 1 and 2 years old.  And I weigh
33lbs.  They say I should weigh about 65lbs.  So I've got a way to go.  I've got tapeworm and
hookworm but thankfully, I'm heartworm free.  I got medicine for all of my problems. But my
day didn't end there.  After the vet, my new mom and her friend gave me a bath.  The doctor
said all the scabs on my sores had to be removed and cleaned with a special rinse.  And man, do
I have sores.  They are everywhere.  Not one spot of me doesn't have some sort of boo-boo.  It
wasn't the best experience, but I felt better afterwards.  Here are a few pictures of me at
the vet's office and then after my bath.
In the truck waiting on my turn to see the vet.
In the vet's office.  All those spots
aren't spots, they're my sores.
After my bath.  I know I still look pretty
rough, but I understand it had to be done.
1.6.2010- Another big day for me; my follow-up appointment at
the vet's office.  I've already gained 2 pounds.  Amazing, since
I've still got so many worms.  No worries, I got meds for
those!  My sores are slowly healing.  But I've still got a
terrible sinus infection.  I got a new antibiotic and a steroid
today to help along the healing on my skin and get my sinuses
back in order.  The doctor wants Mom to give me another
germicidal bath and get as many of these yucky scabs off as she
can.  The larger ones are looking better and I'm keeping some
clean myself, but others need a good cleaning.  They tried to
get blood from me today but I had barely any to give.  They
eventually got enough and are going to test it to see what's
going on in the inside of me, now that the outside is somewhat
under control.  Those test results should be back in a few days
and I'll let you all know what's new then.
At my mom's friend's house this morning, waiting for my vet
appointment.
1.8.2010- My blood work came back.  And it seems that I have lyme disease. They tell me lyme disease in dogs is transmitted as it is in
humans, through the bite from a tick that carries certain bacteria.  It is the bacteria that causes lyme disease.  Tick bites from ticks
not carrying these bacteria cannot transmit lyme disease to the dog or person being bitten.  The treatment for lyme disease in dogs, so
that the condition does not progress to chronic lyme disease and/or permanent joint or nerve damage, will consist of antibiotics.  Other
than that, everything seems ok.
1.14.2010- Things haven't been going well since my last trip to see the doctor.  I've become grumpy and aggressive.  I don't know why.
And I haven't been interested in food at all.  My doctor recommended I go to the Rainbow Bridge.  It sounds like a great place!  I can't
wait to get there.  My mom's taking me today.  I think I'm going to love it!
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that
pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food,
water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.  All the
animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.  Those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are
happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone
very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks to all of you who donated money to help Kris.  Unfortunately, with his questionable background and rapidly
changing behavior, his doctor recommended he be euthanized.  It was a difficult decision, but his mom and I agreed.
He was out of pain and comfortable and knew the feeling of warmth and care before he left this world.  If you had
not have given, his last days would have been longer, colder and full of suffering.  You all made the difference for
this guy!  And for that, his mom and I and he, will always be grateful.
There are a few dollars left over.  A total of $78 which has been donated in his memory to the ASPCA.  Again, our
thanks go out to every single person who helped Kris know the kindness of human hands!
